2022 Spring Concert: Mar. 25-26
TCGMC is irrepressible! This is the second pandemic we’ve survived, and we’re rising out of the proverbial ashes with a fiery soul for singing! Proliferating the choral art through the creation of new music is very much a part of life of our chorus. “When I Rise” is filled with new commissions from amazing composers such as Steve Milloy, Timothy Takach, and Jake Runestad. Additionally, we are commissioning a new work from Alan Shorter to honor the life of former singer, Chris Mellin. We look forward to presenting these to you in the stunning sanctuary at Westwood Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park.
The second half of the program will feature the world premier of Stigmata, composed by Dr. Gerald Gurss. The work chronicles the experiences of HIV stigma from the following perspectives: a straight woman of color, a 77yr old man, a young girl whose mother fought to erase HIV stigma, the gay community that doesn’t know that they are inflicting stigma, the experience of apps and stigma, what happens to someone once they find out they have HIV, and finally, the historical perspective of those who have died from AIDS. The premiere of Stigmata is made possible by generous sponsorship from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota and Walgreens.
