“This season, we will present three musically wonderful and delightful concerts for our 31st and my last season,” said Dr. Stan Hill, Artistic Director of the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus. As previously announced, Dr. Stan Hill will retire after the 2011-12 season and the search for a new Artistic Director has been launched.

The Chorus will open its season with its annual holiday concert, entitled Yule Be Swingin’ (Friday December 9 & Saturday, December 10, 2011 8 p.m.; Sunday, December 11, 2011 2 p.m.), which will feature a 13-piece jazz band along with the Chorus as we celebrate the golden age of the big band era with the sounds of the season! Think Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra with a dash of Mad Men including jazzy riffs on Jingle Bells, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Let it Snow along with a unique new interpretation of Winter Wonderland. Other musical selections include Hot Hanukkah, Boogie Woogie Santa Claus, I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, Little Jack Frost, and more!

Yule Be Swingin’ will be followed by RE: Generations (Friday & Saturday, March 30-31, 2012 8 p.m.). In the tradition of Metamorphosis in 2004, Through a Glass, Darkly in 2008, and NakedMan performed with our most recent commission The Kushner Trilogy in 2010, the Chorus proudly presents the world premiere of our new commissioned work that will be composed by Michael Shaieb (who also composed Through a Glass, Darkly and The Kushner Trilogy) and that will be performed at GALA Festival in Denver in 2012. This unconventional look at the generational dynamics in our community tells a story that is relevant not just to the members of the Chorus but to everyone. It is a reminder that age is a state of mind, Junior High is still awful and that life does indeed “get better.”

To celebrate Pride in June and close the season, Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus will present They Sang to Me (Friday & Saturday, June 22-23, 2012 8 p.m.), the highlight of Pride weekend: Dr. Stan Hill’s final concert as the Artistic Director of the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus. While this concert will highlight some of the top musical moments of the past twelve years (Not in Our Town, Never Ever from NakedMan, They Sang to Me) it will also look to the future featuring new music especially written for this concert. Dr. Hill has gathered some profoundly beautiful music for what will be his final concert in Minnesota. Join us as the Chorus sings a final “Bravo!” as we pass the conductor’s baton to our new Artistic Director.

During the 2011-2012 season, OutLoud!, a small ensemble of the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus, will present its own concert, Forces of Nature (Friday, May 11, 2012 8 p.m.; Saturday, May 12, 2012 8 p.m.) at the intimate Ritz Theater. Under the direction of Robert Schlidt, the men of OutLoud! will explore the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water.

Single tickets will go on sale for TCGMC’s 2011-12 season in October 2011.
