QUINN MORRISSEY TO REPRISE ROLE OF “YOUNG HARVEY” IN PERFORMANCE OF “I AM HARVEY MILK” WITH GAY MEN’S CHORUS OF LOS ANGELES
May 22, 2014 (Minneapolis) – Quinn Morrissey, a member of the Minnesota Boychoir who performed the role of Young Harvey with the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus in the Midwest premiere of I Am Harvey Milk, will perform the role with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles this summer.
The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles will perform I Am Harvey Milk as part of their 35th Anniversary Concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20, 2014.
“I am so thrilled for Quinn! It is an incredible opportunity for him to be able to perform this work alongside (composer) Andrew Lippa who will be reprising the role of Harvey,” said Artistic Director Ben Riggs. Lippa performed the role of Harvey with the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus (SFGMC). He is featured on the original cast recording released last year by SFGMC.
I Am Harvey Milk, a new 12 movement oratorio with music and words by Tony and Grammy Award nominee Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party, The Addams Family, Big Fish) tells the story of Harvey Milk’s life – from childhood to his becoming the first openly gay man to hold public office in California to his assassination. Part choral work, part theater piece, I Am Harvey Milk is an emotional celebration of a gay American icon.
As part of their 35th anniversary celebration, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles have invited members of other GALA choruses who commissioned I Am Harvey Milk to join them on stage. As one of the commissioning choruses, Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus will have a delegation of 30 members attending to perform the work on stage in Los Angeles. The combined chorus of members from San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus, Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus, Heartland Men’s Chorus, Dayton Gay Men’s Chorus, Denver Gay Men’s Chorus and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles is expected to be 500 singers strong.
