What are you looking for? An opportunity to put your talents to good use? An opportunity to join a brotherhood of men who are committed to showing the world the best face of the gay community? Then we want to hear from you.
This rich experience offers committed men solo, ensemble and large group choral/vocal experiences unlike any other in the midwest. The Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus encourages any and all to audition.
Are you interested in auditioning for TCGMC? Join us for an Open Rehearsal on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 to learn more about the Chorus and decide if TCGMC is right for you! Our open rehearsal is also the first rehearsal for the new concert preparation period for our concert “Erased“ on March 27-28 (with an extra concert at Central Lutheran Church on the 29th), 2020.
***IMPORTANT*** If you plan on singing with us during the 2020 GALA Festival in July, you’ll need to audition with us in January, and join us for both our Spring and Pride performance periods. We’ll still have auditions in April for our Pride performance, but you won’t be able to sing with us at GALA.
Rehearsal is at 7pm at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church in Minneapolis.
Auditions are scheduled for Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 7:00pm at McPhail Center for the Arts room 127. You can sign up for an audition slot when you attend the open rehearsal on January 7th. Auditions will be held with our Artistic Director, Dr. Gerald Gurss.
NOTE: You MUST ATTEND the open rehearsal on Tuesday, January 7 in order to audition on the 9th. For more information, contact the Chorus Office at 612-339-7664.
Your audition will take approximately 10 minutes. Please bring a prepared and memorized solo of no more than two minutes in length. Choose a song that you are comfortable singing – a simple song is fine (folk song, hymn, pop tune, or classical piece, etc.). An accompanist will be provided, so please bring printed music for the accompanist. In addition to your solo, the audition will check your vocal range, ability to carry an individual vocal part, tonal memory, and music reading skills. At the audition you will meet singers from our Membership Board and have a chance to ask questions about the chorus.
Some specific notes about auditions from our Artistic Director, Dr. Gerald Gurss:
Your audition will include:
Singing 32+ bars of a song that showcases your voice and vocal style (as well as your ability to sing in tune)
If your selection is not memorized, please bring an extra, clear, copy of your music, secured in a folder, for the accompanist
Sight-singing a 4-bar melody using any method of your choosing (i.e. solfège syllables, doo doo doo, lah lah lah, or mooing . . . its’ up to you!)
Voice placement and range testing, and pitch pattern matching.
If you are interested in auditioning for the Chorus but you do not think you are ready yet, you are always welcome to attend any of our Tuesday evening rehearsals at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church. Just call the Chorus Office at 612-339-7664 so we can make arrangements for your visit.
