It Gets Better

A Message of Hope…

On October 26, 2010, we gathered at our regular Tuesday evening rehearsal at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church in Minneapolis to record a message of hope for our younger brothers and sisters. This video has been included as part of the “It Gets Better” Project.

One of our Chorus members recently wrote, “As a community, the Chorus serves a supportive and stabilizing role for its members…I know several members who, facing depression and other challenges over the years, have said, ‘The Chorus has saved my life.’” It is so easy to take for granted this sense of community and belonging that the Chorus provides its members and to all of you. We know we are making progress over homophobia, yet teenage kids are choosing to end their lives because of what others think of them.

We do believe that deep down, your support for the Chorus has at its roots a sense of being a welcomed friend and part of our family. Do you remember the first time you joined hands with the people next to you as the Chorus sang “Walk Hand in Hand?” Never take that feeling for granted, because too many of our younger brothers and sisters remain outside the safety of those joined hands.

We look forward to building community through music during our 30th season: not just for all of us, but for everyone out there who needs to hear us sing.
